I am professor in educational work for ICT and Learning at Umeå University in Sweden. Prior to starting to work in teacher education in 1988, I was a teacher of secondary school mathematics for fifteen years. I completed a PhD in mathematics education in 1995 and in 2001 was appointed professor of education at Sheffield Hallam University. In 2004 was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship by the Higher Education Academy. Currently I am the Main Convenor of Network 27 Didactics -Learning and Teaching (http://eera.educ.umu.se/web/eng/all/networks/network27/index.html). Particular research interests include the development of learning communities in open and flexible learning environments, the role of collaborative technologies in supporting community building and networking for educational innovation and professional development.
